Collection Preview: Italian Landscapes

Painting these scenes was almost as fun as the trip itself. It was hard not to be charmed by the gently rolling fields spotted with vineyards, villas, and fields of wild poppies. The variety of texture and color was overwhelming, and was something I hoped to capture in this collection of paintings. These scenes were calm and peaceful, yet bright and alive - much like the effect of the natural world.

This collection of paintings includes twelve 6x6” paintings with both drawn and painted elements. The colored pencil laid the foundation for the color and texture, while the oil paint filled in the details. Each of the inspiration photos was gathered from a similar area, specifically the towns of Buonconvento, Montalcino and Fienza, and with a few shots from stops along the way. Each tell their own story, and would take a book to tell the stories behind each one, but you can read about a few of them here and here.
