Collection Preview: Restful Abundance with Liza Pruitt

In my opinion, winter is the underdog of all of the seasons, especially in Texas. Us Texans love our warm weather, so winter is a trying time. Even though temperatures normally stay pretty mild, as soon as it dips below 40 degrees, things get ugly. Luckily, though, most of winter is at minimum bearable. Out at the Farm, the dormancy of nature is on full display. Instead of lush green fields, the grasses are a dull green and crunch underneath our feet. The trees are bare, and I always the miss the rustle of the leaves as the wind blows through the branches. The scenery is stark, bare - and yet - there is so much beauty to be found.

In seasons when there isn’t anything obvious like wildflowers and wild grasses to see, I have to look closer. I’m able to notice the soft roll in the sloping land around the pond, a rare hint of elevation in an otherwise flat landscape. I catch the subtle shift in color in the grass of my favorite corner of The Farm. I also have the opportunity to explore a softer, gentler color palette.

My approach to this collection was to find the joy and beauty when the land appears to be bereft of both. After returning to my studio after some time away after having my son, this seemed like the perfect challenge. Find the beauty! Look closer! Celebrate this season! My paintbrush led with these guidelines and I created a collection of artwork that stirred hope and wonder in my heart. Like nature, life happens in seasons. Some are better, some are worse, some are easier, some are harder. Some require more effort to make it to the next one, and others breeze by so quickly that we miss it. In this season of Winter, this season of quiet, I chose to embrace the apparent “lack” and seek out what I could. What I discovered is that a landscape that appeared empty was still so full. Rest is part of living, and I’ve learned you can either fight it and run yourself dry, or embrace it, and discover the abundance it affords.

This collection includes twelve framed paintings ranging in sizes from 6x6” to 20x30” created with oil paint on canvas.

Each of the inspiration photos was taken at and around my family’s Farm in south Texas during a week spent out there this winter. I drew from a collection of photos taken from different vantage points around the property, from tight vignettes to sweeping views. The color palette ranges in color, but is highlighted with muted pinks and a wide array of greens.

I am so thrilled to bring this collection to you exclusively through Liza Pruitt! This is my third collection with Liza, and I am hoping this one sells out as quickly as the last two!!
